PrintThe field book documents Fielding Meek's work during 1862 in Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. Pages are numbered. Entries are chronological and include dates. They detail daily activities, locations visited, and colleagues with whom he worked. Types of locations observed include near train stations, locations excavated by the railroads, marl beds and near areas eroded by water sources. The are numbered cross sections; descriptions of color and characteristics of stone, sand, and clay observed; and lignite and iron ore deposits. Locations sometimes indicated by name of property owner. Collected with Foreman, Strayer, and Cook. Locations include the vicinity of Maryland (Chesapeake City, Annapolis, Baltimore), New Jersey (Elkton, Raritan River, Freehold, New Egypt), and (New Jersey/Pennsylvania border) Bordetown. Includes a list of expenses from May 25 - October 16, 1862.
