Abstract

The field catalog documents the mammals collected by Edward Alexander Preble across the United States and Canada, June 16, 1892 - May 4, 1911. Pages are numbered. Multiple catalogs have been bound together; pagination restarts with each catalog. Entries cover USNM catalog numbers (non consecutive), original number (1 - 5648), sex, name of species, locality (town, county, state), date, measurements (total length, tail vertebrae, hind foot), and remarks. Remarks include a combination of details about specimen preparation, specimen condition, habitat (i.e. edge of salt meadow), vegetation, collector, altitude, whether topotype, time of day collected, and notes on specimen exchanges.
