In the book are 3 letters from the Office of the Coast and Geodetic Survey, to the US Biological Division, US Department of Agriculture, explaining the contents of the field book. Turner was an assistant working along the Porcupine River and crossing of the 141st meridian in Alaska. There is a paginated index in the front for types of birds (listed with common name), and pages are numbered. Entries are often headed with type of bird. Details include notes on date, location, and quantity of birds first seen, fish caught and insects are seen. Includes a pasted map insert with notations relations to Turners location in Alaska.
