Abstract

The field book documents Russell J. Thompson's field work in Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, Tennessee, April 1 - July 8, 1892. A portion of the notebook is blank. Pages are numbered and headed with locations. Entries are dated and describe weather, travel details, descriptions of communities, observations on location,and abundance of mammals per site, specimen collecting (variety of mammals including bats), descriptions of collecting requests from superiors, information collected from local inhabitants on mammal populations and habits. Locations includes the vicinity of Liberty county, Georgia; Mobile Bay, Alabama; Houma, Louisiana; Tennessee including Big Sandy, Danville, and Bellamy Cave.
