Abstract

The field book documents E. W. Nelson's field work in California in October 1, 1891 - January 15, 1892. Entries are dated and describe daily activities and times of day, lists of flora and fauna observed per site or between locations, with notes on habitat behavior, and abundance (including birds and mammals). There are descriptions of specimens collected (mammals), observations of campsites, and terrain (elevation). Often locations are listed at the beginning of entries; these include geological landmarks and names of ranches. Locations include Alila [Earlimart], Tehoachipi mountains [Tehachapi](?), Tejon Pass, Pozo, Timber Mountain, Los Olivos, and Gaviota, California.
