Abstract

The field book documents E. W. Nelson's field work in California, January 1 - June 23, 1891. Entries are dated and describe specimen collecting, collecting methods, terrain (soil composition and elevation), vegetation (types and abundance), wildlife observed (including notes on abundance), notes on evidence of wildlife presence, nests, daily activities and times of day, and descriptions of areas around campsites. There are references to working with Bailey. There are also observations of individuals and flocks of birds, as well as coyotes. Locations include Darwin, Maturango Spring, Willow Creek, Cottonwood Canyon, California.
