Abstract

MacFarlane's unpublished manuscript on arctic birds that he collected. The manuscript is not dated, but the specimens MacFarlane refers to were collected from approximately 1862 to 1865. The manuscript lists birds more or less by collector number, followed by scientific name, sex, quantity of eggs if any, locality, date collected, sometimes measurements, and information about the collecting event. Some entries are listed by another number (set number?) that is found in parenthesis and accompanied by three other numbers (one 5 digit number; the other two are 4 digit numbers). Localities in which birds were collected include but are not limited to Franklin Bay, "Barren Grounds", "Borders Wooded Country", "Esquimaux Lower Anderson", Fort Anderson, "Arctic Coast", "Rendezvous Lake" , Horton River, and Lockhart River.
