Abstract

This field book contains notes on the processing and releasing of golden lion tamarins in the Vargem area of Brazil in January and November 1983. A few pages inserted into the front of the notebook summarize the notebook's content. Kleiman provides a narrative of activities including observing, capturing, processing (taking measurements, weight, descriptions, blood, and skin samples), and releasing of the tamarins. The majority of the notes in this field book, however, reflect Kleiman's meetings and interactions with representatives from IBDF (Instituto Brasileiro de Desenvolvimento Florestal), FEMA, and FONZ, as well as others with connections to or possession of golden lion tamarins. Kleiman notes many of her frustrations, especially as she attempts to negotiate an exchange between IBDF and the National Zoological Park (NZP).
