Abstract

This field book includes the field notes of T. R. Soderstrom from the Smithsonian Institution Botany Exhibits Field Expedition to British Guiana [now Guyana] in 1962. The first page of the field book includes a list of individuals on the expedition, including Smithsonian staff and Guyana natives. Long, diary-like entries describe Soderstrom's daily activities on the expedition, and includes references to colleagues, local culture, photographs and taken, and travel. Entries also describe observations of the landscape, vegetation, and birds. Soderstrom mentions making recordings of song birds. Rough sketches of plant specimens are included throughout the book. Several loose notes and a newspaper clipping on the "Sidelines from Nation's Capital" in Sunday Tribune, 3/4/62 are included. Also includes a menu from Park Hotel in Georgetown.
