Abstract

The field book documents Basil Hicks Dutcher's field work in Kansas with Vernon Bailey, July 20 - September 24, 1892. Entries are dated and describe travel details (destinations, time of day), terrain (including general background on geology), details about types of traps and locations where placed (including the vegetation in the vicinity), weather, vegetation (including types of crops), flora and faun observations (including type of bird or mammal and abundance), specimen collecting (including gophers), and interactions with local inhabitants. Includes lists of birds per site, with quantity. Locations include but not limited to Chautauqua county and Belle Plaine.
