Abstract

The journal documents Vernon Orlando Bailey's fieldwork in California as well as Sonora and Chihuahua regions of Mexico, November 25, 1932 - January 25, 1933. Entries are dated and describe travel details (destinations, distances, accommodations), terrain and altitude, vegetation (types, common and scientific names, life zones), daily activities, specimens collected (including mammals, reptiles), observed mammals and birds, descriptions of communities and ranches, interactions with local inhabitants and officials, list of birds and plants seen per location range, and vertebrate zoology collections in Los Angeles. Locations include Magdalena to Hermosillo (Sonora), Nogales, in Mexico; Tucson to Yuma, Escondido, California.
