Abstract

The journal documents Vernon Orlando Bailey's fieldwork in New Hampshire and New York, August 23 - September 26, 1932. Entries are dated and describe travel details and collecting. Subject matter includes of travel with Florence (wife), details (destinations, time of day, distances), observations of mammal and bird populations (including health and quantities, sometimes insects), interactions with local inhabitants and colleagues, meetings with officials, weather, specimen collecting (beavers), terrain, vegetation, observed eclipse and effect on wildlife, and visit to a mink farm. Part of the notebook is blank. Includes observation of populations in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania; Squam Lake, New Hampshire; Ossining, New York.
