Abstract

The journal documents Vernon Orlando Bailey's fieldwork in Montana, Minnesota, Michigan, Wyoming (Yellowstone Park), July 3 - September 11, 1926. Entries are dated and detail travel from Washington, DC. Subject matter includes travel details (destinations, times of day, campsites), weather, daily activities, photographs taken, observations of birds and mammals including their behavior and habitat (sometimes listed as subheading in entries), specimen collecting, lists of mammal specimens for Yellowstone (type, sex, measurements, location, date), vegetation (type and state of growth), meetings with game wardens, beavers marked (type, sex, weight, quantity, habitat), and some notes about beaver farms. Some of the notebook is blank. Additional location includes geological landmarks (i.e. Old Faithful), Snake river.
