Abstract

The journal documents Vernon Orlando Bailey's fieldwork in Carlsbad, New Mexico, April 29 - May 13, 1924. The entries are dated and describe travel details (mode of travel, destinations, distances, campsites), observations of prairie dogs and other mammals and birds, habitat, remains of tribal settlements, caverns (with observations bats and guano), vegetation, terrain, interactions and work with local inhabitants and colleagues, and list of birds observed. Locations are identified by geological landmark.
