Abstract

The journal documents Vernon Orlando Bailey's fieldwork in Idaho, Montana, North Dakota, Oregon, July 1 - November 9, 1920. Entries are dated and describe travel from Washington, DC. Subject matter include travel details (destinations, times of day, geological landmarks, routes, mode of travel, accommodations), weather, observations of birds and mammals, habitat, descriptions of communities visited (including locations in Minnesota), terrain, vegetation (including scientific names and life zones), local inhabitants with whom he worked, and specimen collecting. Some entries list only specimens collected with type and quantity. Locations include Bismarck, North Dakota; Caribou mountains, Idaho; Deschutes valley, Oregon.
