Abstract

The journal documents Vernon Orlando Bailey's fieldwork in Yellowstone National Park, September 1 - 18, 1917. Entries are dated and describe travel details (destinations, distances, time of day, mode of transportation), weather, terrain (altitude), vegetation (type and life zones), mammals observed (including type and quantities), and observations of local inhabitants about wildlife. This includes descriptions of bears' behavior including with human food. The last portion of the notebook is blank.
