Abstract

The photograph album documents Alexander Wetmore's work in Panama during 1951 to collect bird specimens in Cerro Campana and other points in Panama. He was assisted by Watson M. Perrygo. Photographs include numbers, date, and caption with description and location. Subject matter includes Panamanians in daily activities (including pounding rice); towns,individual structures and residences; hieroglyphs and pictographs at El Valle, Coclé; structures of Barro Colorado Laboratory; tame tapirs at the laboratory; lodgings; observed birds, young, and their nests; terrain (shorelines, forests, valleys); and Perrygo preparing specimens. Some observed birds are identified by their Latin names. Includes photographs of Wetmore, Watson M. Perrygo, Harold Trapido, Shirley Gage, Graham Bell Fairchild, Marshall Hertig, James Zetek, Marion Illg Stirling, Matthew Williams Stirling, and Richard H. Stewart. Also includes photographs of the Canal Zone Biological Area.
