Abstract

The journal documents Vernon Orlando Bailey's collecting mammal and bird specimens in Nevada and Oregon, May 1898 - July 15, 1898. Entries are dated and include descriptions of travel and specimen collecting. Locations are usually listed at the top of the pages. Details include routes, campsites, daily activities with time of day, terrain (including elevation), vegetation, ranches visited, observed wildlife, and specimens collected. Includes a note stating at date July 15, "from this date on, Dr. Merriam keeps the journal. [signed] Vernon Bailey." Half the notebook is blank. Often locations are indicated by name of valleys, mountains, or rivers. Locations includes Wadsworth, Smoky Valley, Eureka, Elko, Ragtown, Nevada; Klamath Falls, Oregon.
