Abstract

The journal documents Vernon Orlando Bailey's collecting of mammal and bird specimens in Nevada, Utah, and Idaho, June 21 - November 3, 1890. Entries are dated and are sometimes headed with location. Subject matter includes travel details, weather, temperature, types and quantities of specimens collected, observed wildlife and habitat, trapping efforts, birds and their nests, daily activities and times of day, observations of lava beds near Snake River, barometric readings, and elevations. Location information often includes ranch names or rivers. There are multiple references to working with individuals referred to as Streator and Dutcher. Locations include Fairfield, Ogden, Utah; Wells, Nevada; Battle Mountain.
