Abstract

The journal documents Vernon Orlando Bailey's collecting of mammal and bird specimens in March 17 - June 20, 1890. Entries are dated and detail travel and specimen collecting. Details include weather, type and quantity of specimens, wildlife observed, campsites, snowfall, daily activities and times of day, trapping, interactions and conversations with local inhabitants, and references to collecting fossils. Locations include Elk River, Minnesota; vicinity of Mankato along Minnesota River; Elk Horn River; Valentine, Nebraska; Bridger Pass, (state unidentified); Smiths Fork, Rawlins, Wyoming (?). Sometimes locations are indicated by railroad lines or ranches.
