Abstract

The journal documents Vernon Orlando Bailey's collecting of mammal and bird specimens in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Utah, January 1 - July 25, 1889. Entries are dated and include travel details, destinations and time of day, daily activities, collecting activities (trapping, type of terrain where collecting), weather, temperature, and type of specimens collected per day (often listed with common name). Notes indicate he collected with H. Reays. Often locations are named with names of rivers of valleys. Locations include Dolan Springs, Ditriol Valley (vicinity of Phoenix), Tuscon, Arizona; El Paso (state unidentified).
