Abstract

The field book documents Gerrit S. Miller's collecting in Massachusetts and New York, July 14 - August 27, 1889. Pages are numbered. Entries are dated, headed with type of bird with scientific name with descriptions of observations or collecting, weather, flocks and individual, behavior (eating, flight, songs). When collecting Miller lists specimen number, sex, and type. Observations of birds can be extensive, including weather and time of day. There is also contact information for colleagues. Information is entered from the front and back of the volume. From the back is a specimen list including snakes with type, locality, date, measurements, and notes about collecting method or location. Locations include Provincetown, Westin, Truro, Massachusetts; and Peterboro, New York.
