Abstract

The field notes document Louis W. Hutchins' field work in Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution as part of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge Expedition, 1948. Also includes list and copies of outgoing correspondence. Field notes cover July 15 - July 28, 1948. Correspondence covers July 28, August 21, 1948, and discuss ongoing challenges in the field. The lists include supplies, gear, plankton samples, and memo(?) discussing expectations for collecting plankton samples. Field notes describe voyage with time of day and activities, conditions and depth while collecting, interactions with colleagues, the reactions of locals to Newfoundland becoming part of Canada. Locations include the Atlantic waters of New England, Saint Johns, Newfoundland.
