Abstract

This is the fourth of four sketchbooks of wildlife of Sudan, 1919, by Abel Chapman. There are several loose inserts of additional sketches. Most of the illustrations are of birds, though some include insects, crocodiles, fish, and elephants. Some are detail images with notes on appearance, others of individuals or groups in their habitats. Captions vary in length, sometimes limited to name, date or location, others explaining observed behavior. There are notes referencing page numbers in diary (not included). Locations include Flamingo Bay [Marsa Angiyāy], Kajo Kaju, north of Tewfikia, and Sudd.
