Abstract

William Mann went as a Sheldon Traveling Fellow on a entomological collecting trip to Fiji , collecting a variety of insect specimens in forests, along water sources, and fields of the islands. The diary is arranged by date, followed by location, usually the name of the village if indicated. Entries are journal style, and include detailed descriptions of travel itinerary, observations of the flora and fauna, architecture, and daily life of the native population. Pages are numbered. Specimens are noted in the text, as well as the manner in which they are prepared. The end of the diary is organized by topic, listed by heading, which include: island agriculture, observations of Fijian population, wildlife on the islands, Fijian vocabulary, and Islands visited.
