Abstract

The journal is the sixth of eight volumes documenting the big game hunting of Major N. C. Cockburn at “Egypt” [Sudan], December 13, 1910 - March 13, 1911. The journal follows the format of the other volumes. Entries are on the right hand side, notes are on the left. Notes are collected information and observations relating to his travel and hunting. These include computations, distances between destinations, staffing, supplies, expenses, and animals collected (common and scientific name, size). Journal entries are headed with location (i.e. vessel, town), date, and sometimes distance covered and describe travel details (mode of travel, accommodations, time of day), weather, terrain, hunting conditions for time of year, descriptions of terrain, and personal impressions of people and locations. Half of the notebook is blank. Collecting includes elephants. Locations include Nile river, past Kodok.
