Abstract

Birds observed by Louis Mearns, Fort Adams, Newport, Rhode Island, 20 February 1899 to 20 February 1900, using four of the U. S. Department of Agriculture Division of Biological Survey charts for recording bird observations. Data columns record name of the bird (scientific), date it was first seen, how many times it was seen (approximation), date next seen, date it became common, date it was last seen (in which Louis Mearns sometimes notes a specimen was taken), “is it common or rare?”, “does it bread near your station?”, and remarks. Instructions are printed on the back of each chart.
