Abstract

The field book documents Edgar A. Mearns' field work in Philippines, 1903 - 1908. Includes a few postcards and photographs. Information includes mammal data for Dr. Lyon. Entries are organized by more than one method, some by field number, others by date. Pages are numbered. There is an overview description of collecting, followed by field number, type, preparation, and USNM catalog number; and memorabilia (music program). Notebook entries are headed by date, and location, followed by field number, type, preparation, sex, age and altitude. Descriptions vary in detail, some include measurements, appearance, collecting method, habitat. Other list is organized by field number. Entries are not chronological, and are scattered through out the notebook, with blank pages in between. There are names for wildlife listed English and Moro; there is also a sketch of Moro women's knife. Includes a plant specimen. Locations include but are not limited to Guam; Luzon island, Mindanao; New York.
