Abstract

The field book documents Edgar A. Mearns' field work in Florida, 1901. There is an index with pages in the front indicating mammals, birds, reptiles, fish, plants, itinerary, nest and eggs, and list of periodicals. The specimen lists vary in structure and content. Some are headed with location and date, and include field number, type (scientific name), age, sex, measurements (various), appearance, colors, descriptions resulting from dissection. Some descriptions are extensive. Others are succinct lists with notes relating to appearance, preparation, or habitat. First specimens are listed by number, then entered by type, corresponding to index. Locations include town, geographic location, and county. Locations include but are note limited to Brevard county, Polk county, Osceola county, Kissimmee River, Florida.
