Abstract

The field book documents Edgar A. Mearns' field work in New York, August 8 - October 8, 1896. Lists are headed with type of information. Mammal data lists include field number, type (scientific name), sex, age, date, and measurements (5 types). Often entries are headed with location. Other notes are interspersed including dietary habits and habitat of species, lists of location altitudes, and specimen preparation. Entries begin at the front and back of the notebook. Notes in the back relate to collecting by Louis Mearns, while in New York. There are loose inserts with specimen lists. Locations are identified by town, geographic location (river, mountain), or county. Locations include but are not limited to Hunter Mountain, Greene County, Kaaterskill Junction.
