Abstract

Alexander Wetmore travels to Mexico in 1939 to collect bird specimens for the US National Museum. Materials include correspondence, itemized expense records, permits, film notes, memorabilia, and reference materials. Correspondents include John Enos Graf, Louise M. Pearson, and Matthew Williams Stirling. Of special interest is correspondence with Stirling concerning his anthropological field work at Tres Zapotes, Veracruz. Field notes are dated March 3 - 1939 and headed with the date and location (name of town in vicinity). Information includes birds observed, descriptions of terrain and vegetation at observation sites, and some distance measurements. Additionally includes a list of film with locations cited. Most of the correspondence relates to ongoing work at the Smithsonian or travel arrangements.
