Abstract

Volume 1 of a catalogue of birds Mearns, Heller, and Loring collected on the Smithsonian African Expedition from 29 March to 8 September 1909. Collector numbers 15506-16700 are included, and correlating USNM catalog numbers have been added for most of the specimens. Localities where specimens were collected include Kapiti Plains Station (Kapiti is currently Ilkaputiei), Kitunga, N’guasso Nyiro River, Lake Nauraischa, Nairobi, Fayal Island (Azores), Suez Canal (Currently), and Aden (S. center Arabia). A feather inserted at page 106-107. Also includes four envelopes of labels for birds collected by John Alden Loring and Edgar A. Mearns and birds collected at Fort Totten, New York, from 26 March to 3 November 1908, collector numbers 15490-15505.
