Close
PrintThe journal documents Edmund Heller's field work in Peru, April 6 - May 17, for the National Geographic Society Yale University Peruvian Expedition. Along the front cover is a list of animals with common and corresponding local name, and numbers of specimens documented in the field book. Entries are dated and document supplies, staffing, daily work with time of day, weather, flora and fauna observations, collecting method, and specimens collected (sometimes listed). Lists are sometimes headed by type of animal and include type, color, appearance, habitat when collected, and quantity. These include birds and mammals. There are markings indicating that crossed out sections were copied and corrected specimen identifications. At the back is a list of collected specimens with field number (156 - 254), type, sex, date, and preparation method. Some have elevation. Locations include Huarocondo, Cuzco, Chospyoc, Ollantaytambo.
