This volume is comprised of 8 sections of field notes, possibly separate field books that have been bound together. The field notes document Albert Spear Hitchcock's work collecting botanical specimens (mainly grasses) in the United States, Mexico, and Canada between 1908 and 1910. The first section is labeled "1908 - book 1" and includes notes for collector numbers 2500-3545. Locations include: Texas, New Mexico, California, and Oregon. The second section is labeled "3544 1/2 -- 3904" and locations include Mexico, Arizona, New Mexico, and Oregon. The third section is labeled "1909 book 1, 4000-4738" for specimens collected in Alaska (including Sitka and Juneau). The fourth section is labeled "1909 book 2, 4739-5130" and locations include Canada, Michigan, and Wisconsin. The fifth section is labeled "1910 book 1, 5131-5918" and locations include Texas and possibly Mexico. The sixth section is labeled "1910 book 2, 5919-6695" and includes specimens collected in Mexico. The seventh section is labeled "1910 book 3, 6700-7564" and includes specimens collected in Mexico. The last section "1910 book 4" and includes specimens collected in Mexico.
