Abstract

This item consists of two specimen lists by André Goeldi sent to Albert Spear Hitchcock in 1920; one black-and-white photograph; and two maps of Brazil. The two specimen lists are identical except for differing cover pages and differing annotations. The lists include collector numbers 1 through 299, scientific names, date, and notes on location and abundance. The photograph depicts a specimen with a caption on the back that reads "Helopus punctatus, taken from a fresh bunch, a kind confused in Brazilian papers with Pará-Grass. Pará, 1919, A. Goeldi." The map of the state of Pará, Brazil is divided into quadrants I through XXXV and annotated. A folded sheet of thin paper shows a hand drawn map divided into similar quadrants with a list of locations that Goeldi collected grass specimens. Localities include: Moju River, Belem, San Miguel do Guama, Fazenda Gavinho, Soure, Cacaual Grandel, Marajó Island, and Caracara River. A second map of "Territoire de L'Acre" is also included.
