Abstract

Materials document Alexander Wetmore's participation in the Tanager Expedition, 1923, while working for the U.S. Department Agriculture (USDA), Bureau of Biological Survey. The expedition was conducted with the cooperation of the U.S. Navy, Bishop Museum, and USDA. Materials include memorabilia from his time in Hawaii (baggage inspection tags, brochures, music and sports programs) and publications including the The Tanager Daily Harpoon an informal daily publication of the naval vessel (USS Tanager) on which the expedition traveled. Includes poetry, details about daily lives of vessel occupants, general news (sports, international, national, financial), movements of the ship, satire, and humor.
