Abstract

Materials document Alexander Wetmore's participation in the Tanager Expedition, 1923, while working for the U.S. Department Agriculture (USDA), Bureau of Biological Survey. The expedition was conducted with the cooperation of the United States Navy, Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum, and USDA. Materials include US Naval communications about position, weather and daily activities; specimen requests; intended destinations of specimens and other collected materials (plants, birds, mammals, insects); itineraries; official USDA correspondence; business cards; a press release; receipts; bird lists (Laysan Island); lists of supplies; A significant amount of the materials relate to Laysan Island. Locations visited include Nihoa, Laysan and Lisianski Island.
