Abstract

The two field books document Carl R. Eklund's work with the U.S. Antarctic Expedition at the East Base, 1940. The field catalog documents seal skulls collected and includes specimen number, type, sex, age, date collected (January 21 - 30, 1940), and additional unidentified information. Most of the note book is blank. The second notebook details observations of seals and specimen collecting at East Base, March 29 - November 2, 1940. First entries are headed with date and describe specimens caught, short descriptions of weather, temperature, collecting activities. The last page includes more a detailed description of crab eater seals.
