Abstract

This record describes field notes pertaining to a field trip Bean took to Washington, Oregon, and Montana for the United States Fish Commission in 1897. Notes describe flora and fauna of the area surrounding several bodies of water including but not limited to Spokane River, Thompson's Falls, Prospect Creek, Sand Creek, Flat Head Lake, Wallowa Lake, and Pend Orielle River. Air and water temperatures are often recorded. Common and Latin names of fish are listed. Several pieces of correspondence from the United States Fish Commission to Bean regarding his trip is included, as well as a list of "food of fishes found in the Spokane River". Letter dated January 15, 1894 and other miscellaneous also included. Some of these documents may refer to Bean's 1892 trip to Washington and Idaho. See notebooks in the same folder as this item for description of the 1892 trip.
