Abstract

The field catalog with notes document specimen collecting by Vernon Orlando Bailey in the United States, May 14 - November 14, 1887. Pages are numbered. Data includes specimen number, sex, type (scientific name), locality, date, total length, and tail length, and remarks. Remarks include a combination of descriptions of environment, specimen preparation, or stomach contents. Field notes begin on page 61. Entries are dated and some are headed with type of fauna or location. Entries describe terrain, plants observed (and relation to animals that eat them), animals observed (appearance, behavior, habitat), and references to specimen numbers. Often mammals being described and collected are rodents. Locations include Minnesota; Dakota (Fort Buford); Montana; Wyoming.
