Abstract

The specimen catalog and field notes document Charles R. Aschemeier's collecting April 3, 1917 - March 13, 1919; notes from a talk on "the gorilla at home"; correspondence from January 27, 1918 (with note about specimen 432 sent from the Congo; and 3-page report on methods used while collecting large and small mammals in the Congo. The specimen catalog includes U.S. National Museum specimen (USNM catalog) numbers (218531 - 220986, non sequential), collectors numbers (1 - ), type (common name), locality, date collected, measurements (head, body, tail, hind foot), and remarks. Remarks describe method collected, method prepared, details about environment, and specimen condition. Locations include French Congo [Republic of the Congo], Lake Nvgovi, and Ogouma.
