Abstract

This diary contains information about Carriker's collecting trip to Costa Rica to collect birds, mammals, and insects from 1 June to 18 August 1907, probably for the Carnegie Museum. Entries are narrative and describe every day activities, impressions on villages and surroundings, and collecting activities.Frequently collected animals include "pava" and tapir. Insects including hymenoptera and lepidoptera were also collected. Notes on vegetation are included in descriptions. Sketches of the village are included. Localities include, but are not limited to Boruca, Barranca River, El Pozo (currently Ciudad Cortés), Buenos Aires Trail (near River Balsar), and Tapir Creek.
