Abstract

Margaret Sordahl was at on time stationed at the astrophysical observatory established by the Smithsonian Institution on Mount Brukkaros, in the Southwest African Protectorate [now Namibia]. During that time she collected bird and mammal specimens that reside with the U.S. National Museum. Collecting was carried on as time and opportunity permitted on the mountain, along the Fish River near by, and at Berseba, February 18, 1930 - July 19, 1931. Entries are dated and usually lead with specimen number. They describe varying characteristics, and include a combination of type (sometimes with common or scientific name), sex, appearance, behaviors, specimens collected, method prepared, location, environment, and elevation. Most of the notebook is blank.
