Abstract

This volume contains daily journal entries and specimen lists of birds and mammals seen and collected from 10 June 1886 to 27 July 1887 (with an additional page of notes and bird sketches from January 1888) in Arizona. Journal entries detail daily activities and contain anecdotes of Mearns's and his colleague's travels through Arizona. Collector numbers 4881-5987 (birds) and 437-650 (mammals) and additional numbers for mammals that were previously skipped are included. Notes and sketches of Oak Creek trout and notes on other fishes are also included, although specimen numbers are not included. Also included are copied correspondence, poetry, sketches of birds, lists of vocabulary of the local American Indian population a list of birds of prey, and an index to this volume. Localities include mainly Oak Creek and Fort Verde.
