Abstract

Field notes and diary document Bohumil Shimek's work in Iowa, Louisiana, Texas, Tennessee, Missouri, Mississippi, February 3 - April 3, 1936. Entries are dated and include destinations and distances, travel details (times of day, mode of travel, destinations, accommodations), work activities, weather, lists of mollusk shells observed, and dated lists of expenses. A portion describes a trip to Gulf of Mexico, additionally describing observations of shale and oil producing regions, flora and fauna observed (including birds), plant specimens (moss, slime mold), photographs taken, descriptions of communities visited, and sketches and geological sections of terrain. Locations and routes are identified with a combination of counties, towns, streets, and landmarks. Includes loose inserts of notes.
