Abstract

The field notes and diary document Bohumil Shimek's work and travel in Iowa, August 18 - December 2, 1923. Locations visited are listed on the cover, with dates. Pages are tabbed. Entries are dated and describe travel details (accommodations, mode of travel), times of day, plants collected and observed, terrain (layers, colors, composition, measurements), geological sections with notes, and dated lists of expenses. Lists of plants sometimes include notes about abundance. Terrain observed is along railroad lines, prairie, and alluvial terrain. Some sites are indicated by landmarks. Locations include counties of Winneshiek, Clayton, Wapello, Washington, Huskins, and towns of Davenport, Dubuque, Lamont, Homestead, and Clinton.
