Abstract

The field notes and diary document Bohumil Shimek's work and travel in Iowa, October 11 - 26, December 9 ,1921; March 11 - May 28, 1922. Entries are dated and include references to activities other than field work (meetings, talks given). Entries describe travel details (accommodations, mode of travel), time of day, lists of plants observed (sometimes headed with type of terrain), plant specimens collected (including moss, slime mold), and dated lists of expenses. Includes observations of terrain such as layers, topography (drifts, cuts), measurements, color, and composition. Some notes are crossed out. Some observations only list locations at beginning and ending of trip. Locations include the vicinity of Mason City, Homestead, Dubuque, Confals, and counties of Carroll and Hamilton.
