Abstract

An inserted table of contents contains a full listing of localities and corresponding collector numbers. This field book contains a specimen list of botanical specimens collected from 3 May 1946 to 9 June 1949 in various locations in the Pacific Ocean, and in the United States and New Zealand. Collector numbers 30147-30946 are included. Occasionally, notes become long and narrative, and will sometimes include general descriptions of area vegetation. Specimen list includes scientific name, date, locality, collector number, and sometimes physical description of the specimen that includes its measurements, color, and other information. The cruise on the USS LCI-983 allowed Fosberg to collect in Hawaii, the Marshall Islands, and other Pacific islands. Fosberg describes the other scientists on the cruise. Localities include but are not limited to Virginia, Maryland, and Connecticut in the Continental United States, Fiji, New Caledonia, and several locations in New Zealand (including North and South Island). Miscellaneous papers are inserted at page 11; additional notes are inserted at page 30. Three labels entitled "Plants of New Zealand North Island" are inserted at page 62.
