Abstract

The field notes document Bohumil Shimek's work in Iowa, Nebraska, Tennessee, Missouri, August 31 - October 7, 1917; August 8-20, 1919; August 15 - 24, 1920. Some pages are tabbed. Entries include descriptions, chronological lists of expenses per trips, weather, descriptions of terrain (layers, composition, color, appears, presence of fossils), sketches of terrain, photographs taken (numbered with descriptions); hand drawn maps; daily activities; personal observations while attending local community events; notes on local inhabitants; notes about Czech populations in communities and related meetings; and lists of plants seen between destinations. Some notes are crossed out. Locations include the vicinity of Mason City, Fort Atkinson, Clarion, Decorah, Winterset, Saint Charles, Iowa; Unionville, (state not identified). There is a Map of Vickburg, Missouri.
