Abstract

The field notes and diary document Bohumil Shimek's work in Iowa and Nebraska, July 31 - August 31, October 31, 1916; May 5, June 1, August 26 -28, November 16-17, 1917; May 12 - 19, July 1-16, September 23, 1919. Entries are not in chronological order. Pages are tabbed. Entries are dated, and describe weather, terrain observed, plants collected and prepared, photographs taken (numbered, with descriptions), map of plant locations; lists of plants; results of lake dredging (diatoms), oak groves (numbered) near Bayfield, and lists of expenses per trip. Some lists of plants are headed with type of terrain and location. Terrain includes wetlands, prairie, sand, and dunes. Some notes are crossed out, and pages have been removed. Includes loose inserts. Locations include Lake Okoboji, Spirit Lake, Lyon county, Muscatine county, Dune Park, 1916; Iowa City, Hamburg, Iowa; Crete and Blair, Nebraska, 1917.
